POKOTABI / Saika
菜香
Tucked away in Yūtenji, Saika serves fluffy ham-and-egg fried rice, mild Chinese sausage, and mouthwatering chicken, paired with fine Shaoxing wine in a relaxed setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Set along a quiet residential street in Nakamachi, Meguro, Chinese restaurant Saika delivers an immediately striking bowl of ham and egg fried rice. Tossed with finely diced ham and plenty of egg, the grains remain notably light and free of greasiness, balanced with a gentle salinity that stays refreshing through the very last bite. For a soothing finish, diners can opt for the minimalist ramen, featuring thin noodles swimming in a clear, chicken-based broth alongside soft egg for a mild, comforting close to the meal.
Those beginning their evening with a drink will find compelling openers in cold and hot starters like Chinese sausage and mouthwatering chicken (yodare dori). The concentrated richness of the Chinese sausage is mellow and easy on the palate with subdued star anise, complementing crisp white scallions and mizuna greens. The tender, moist poached chicken comes dressed in a lively sauce humming with balanced acidity, chile heat, and numbing spice. Alongside a glass of five-year urn-drawn Shaoxing wine or cold beer, stir-fries that highlight fresh texture—such as shredded meat with wild rice stems or shrimp with yellow chives—make for a thoroughly satisfying evening spread.
Open for evening service, the compact dining room is lined with tables and wrapped in an unpretentious, calm ambience. It functions just as smoothly for a relaxed solo dinner as it does for reserved tables lingered over with a few shared plates.
